Another Matthews & Hoeve song. Celebrating Obama’s victory US elections and the new spirit that, hopefully, will take over the Americas.. Jozi (When Will You Wake Up?)
I was in Johannesburg for some time. From what I saw of it, it is a nice city. Except for the security, must say. I met a lot of great people there and the city will always be a favorite. Except for the security…
As a songwriter I of course had to do a song about it. Paul Simon’s You Can Call Me All is also about Joburg so I felt in good company. As I was told, the city is called the “The Lady”. They’ve added the word “infamous” to that because of high crime rate. So what came to mind was the city as a sleeping beauty – she doesn’t know yet how really great it can be. Just picture the city without it’s camera’s, it’s walls and gates and I might even think of moving there… The Worldcup Football Games 2010 may well be a turning point for Jozi, the Lady city.
