Origami (Anyway You Fold Me)
Again a recording that I need to get familiar with hearing it online, also for repairs and who knows alternative version. Seems I’m a bit undecided these days… Working on it.
Note: Jules (lyrics) and me (music), we both still do not know what the song is about… As I understand it the lyric was written at work/the office – to ventilate frustration I guess. Does give meaning to song, must say. But without this knowledge, it’s the listener who decides what’s in it for him/her, the Bob Dylan way.
Song by Julian Wilson & Johnny Hoeve
STYLE: classic, singer songwriter, AC
You can make your assumptions
And your paper darts
And throw them down the office at me
You can fall on your knees
In an act of contrition
But I know it’s not somethin’ you mean
You can take your permissions
And your phantom needs
Forgive me if I fail to accede
As I stare out the window
And watch the leaves fall
I never hear a word that I need
Origami Origami
Why won’t you set me free?
Origami Origami
Anyway you fold me I bleed
Your far too close to me
To open your eyes and see
I know how I feel for you
It’s not how you feel for me
Makes Me Wonder
If you really want the cryin and tear in my beer stuff of country music you have to hear Hank Williams – not the music coming from the Nashvillie starmaking machine as it is now. This song started off to see if that “hillibilly shakespeare” music could be updated somehow. A version with fiddle and all is coming up. But for now this sober recording must do.
Yes, I was walking in the woods while singing and playin guitar to this version – I had a pocket field recording device with me, and here’s the result… Okay, let’s do that make believe some more BUT be true true true…please.

8 Pounds 11 Ounces

An interesting contemporary country song I think. Started as an outlaw-with-a-heart kindda song when a new baby was born into Jules’ family – with exactly those 8 pounds and 11 ounces as her weight. Had some difficulties adding the impression of a brushed drumset to the recording but will do. Hear the song crossing over to pop in the middle…

This song may well be the start of a new songwriting demos album. Julian (Wilson) came with the idea to try some folk songs. Problem with me is that somehow it seems difficult for me to do recordings that are all in one style. There is always some sort of mix. Which might be a good thing when you’re the artist yourself. But might hamper selling the song. So here it is again: these recordings are my first “design” after the songwriting is done. If you are looking for songs, try hearing the song itself in YOUR style of music. Or simply ask for a chords, lyric and melody only version. Can be done.
