Nice funky and bluesy tune that could fit any blues artist - or even R&B and country performer. As a matter of fact the song started off as a sort of Hank Williams country blues tune but then developed into this BB King influenced recording. Can also be ZZ Top rock…
Song by Devine & Hoeve
STYLE: Pop, Blues, Jazz, Country, R&B - you name it…
Started cowriting with Donna Devine (CA but living in Holland). Our first song was this country anthem Stone’s Rock From Rock Bottom. So far I seem to be the only one hearing the nice mix of country and rock but o well it will come…
I was in Johannesburg for some time. From what I saw of it, it is a nice city. Except for the security, must say. I met a lot of great people there and the city will always be a favorite. Except for the security…
As a songwriter I of course had to do a song about it. Paul Simon’s You Can Call Me All is also about Joburg so I felt in good company. As I was told, the city is called the “The Lady”. They’ve added the word “infamous” to that because of high crime rate. So what came to mind was the city as a sleeping beauty - she doesn’t know yet how really great it can be. Just picture the city without it’s camera’s, it’s walls and gates and I might even think of moving there… The Worldcup Football Games 2010 may well be a turning point for Jozi, the Lady city.
An interesting contemporary country song I think. Started as an outlaw-with-a-heart kindda song when a new baby was born into Jules’ family - with exactly those 8 pounds and 11 ounces as her weight. Had some difficulties adding the impression of a brushed drumset to the recording but will do. Hear the song crossing over to pop in the middle…
Started cowriting with Shirley E. Matthews (US) This was the first result: a mid-tempo popsong with a jazzy feel. Someone suggested it was in style of George Benson - probably because of the guitar arrangements. O well, you decide.
Subscribing to this feed means you'll always have the last 10 songtitles readily available under Bookmarks in your browser menu. I know Firefox has this function, don't know what the other browsers will do though (will test it later on). What's more, the RSS feed will also show up in your iTunes and play the music as if part of your music collection.
I will use the blanc spaces on these pages for notes and some adds....

It's fun reading it. Nice insights and some great tips. But most of all perhaps: it really inspires you to actually try writing them. Great songs don't have to be hits, you know. And hits don't have to be - o well, you probably get the point...
The solution to ending your obscurity and catching someone's ear is to change your process. Because changing your process will change the results".
What most developing tunesmiths don't understand or perhaps don't want to know is that music publshers and A&R people are looking for songs with a fingerprint on them. They don't want recycled versions of other's people's work.
The 3 real reasons most songwriters haven't yet made are:
1. The songs they write are essentially early drafts and aren't finished yet. They need polishing before being released into the marketplace.
2. Writers have no concept of how business should be conducted in the music business.
3. They haven't learned to impersonalize rejection
If this appeals to you this book may be nice suggeston.
Jimmy Webb's Tunesmith is said to be the best book ever written about songwriting.
